After much anticipation, The Bentway Skate Trail finally opened in early Janurary and received an outpouring of love from Torontonians. With approximately 20,000 visitors within the first two days of opening, The Bentway is off to a fantastic start.

Providing Torontonians with a creative, unique and fun public space to enjoy, it’s no mystery as to why The Bentway received so much positive attention. Throughout the duration of its short season, visitors were able to enjoy: skate parties featuring a variety of DJs, drop in ice-breaking lessons, and even witness Toronto’s first skating fashion show.

Unfortunately, due to warm weather conditions The Bentway Skate Trail had to close prematurely for the season. However, it will remain open during the summer months as a public space for all to enjoy.

This is only the beginning, as the plan is to develop The Bentway into a 1.7 km long loose network of parks. The space will extend from Trinity Bellwoods Park to the former Ontario Place site on the waterfront.

Next summer The Bentway will be home to an amphitheatre that will host music and dance events as well as film screenings. It will provide the public with an alternative way to get through the city, with less traffic and more greenery. The perfect little escape from busy urban life, that happens to be right in the heart of the city.
