For the first time in his career, Karl Lagerfeld will utilize his creative prowess to make his mark in the Toronto real estate world. Freed Developments and CD Capital Developments have partnered with the world renowned designer and creative director for fashion powerhouse, Chanel, to design the entrance lobbies at Art Shoppe lofts + Condos.
On Apr. 1, Freed Developments and CD Capital Developments hosted an exclusive event, transforming their presentation centre into a glamorous venue with a very special guest, Karl Lagerfeld.
The developers’ partnership with Karl Lagerfeld was as meticulous as any other business decision. They wanted someone who could do more than just lend their name, but who had the talent and expertise to take full creative control.
Todd Cowan from CD Capital Developments told New Condo Guide: “We wanted to do something that was going to raise the bar in Toronto, and that would be long lasting… We talked to artists, photographers, designers, musicians, but in the end we realized that having a designer that is going to leave something that’s lasting as opposed to just bringing a celebrity to participate in the project is much more meaningful. [When our agency brought forward Karl Lagerfeld]… we realized that if he agreed to this, that it would differentiate this [project] and would never be repeated again in Toronto.”
Lagerfeld is exciting about his Toronto real estate debut and has high hopes for the outcome: “It’s interesting to design public spaces in a big building like this. It’s a vision – you can use modern furniture, modern architecture – things I’m really interested in. It’s up to me to find an idea of what will make this building different from the other buildings. The minute you enter, you have to feel that you’re in a place that’s special.”
The mere thought of Karl Lagerfeld evokes effortless style and cutting edge fashion. So naturally, Torontonians are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the lobbies to finally be revealed.
On Apr. 25, the public is invited to visit the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos for the grand opening of the presentation centre.
