The Art of Transformation: Public Artwork Changes Yonge Street

The Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos development site at 2131 Yonge Street has recently become a public art exhibit featuring the work of local and internationally renowned artist Chikonzero Chazunguza.

In partnership with the PATCH Project, this mixed-media exhibit spans across approximately 3,300 square feet of construction hoarding at the construction site.

Close Up Of Construction Art

Mr. Chazunguza’s work explores the links between systemized consumerism and the act of queuing in urban settings. The artist seeks to define how happiness, freedom, democracy and identity are molded through consumerism in urban environments.

Six of Chazunguza’s works have been selected to complement the construction site, and to embody ‘the art of change’ – a core value of this Freed Developments and Capital Developments project.

Another Shot Of Construction Art

“In the City” is a part of the PATCH Project, which is a subset of a larger initiative by the STEPS Initiative, to transform construction spaces across Toronto. The exhibit, starting August 2016, will be accessible to the public during construction.
